Wine Reviews

We're adding a new feature to the Wine Country Guide website. We're now adding wine reviews. My wife and I will be trying various bottles of wine, and offering our opinions of them.

Keep in mind, that neither of us are professional wine tasters. You won't find any "I detect the flavors of apple and cherry, with a bit of a leather aroma." To be quite honest, I don't taste all of those things when I drink a glass of wine, I simply taste wine.

Our reviews are simple and straightforward, and represent our opinions on the given wine.

Lindeman's Bin 50 Shiraz

Tim's Opinion:

Color: Dark purple

Aroma: Thick and heavy

Flavor: Medium dry, and slightly bitter

I've had Lindeman's Bin 50 Shiraz on several occasions before. Normally, it is not a dry wine, it usually tends to be a bit sweet. This particular bottle, however was quite a bit drier than normal. The strong flavor was tamed a bit by foods, and it tended to hold up particularly well with sweet foods, such as corn. The wine also paired up well with spaghetti, covered in a hearty marinara sauce. Overall, this wine was a bit too dry for my tastes (I prefer sweeter wines), but as I said earlier, it may have just been this particular bottle, since other bottles of this wine that I've had were sweeter, and a bit lighter.

Lisa's Opinion:

Color: Dark maroon, with a purple hue

Aroma: Heavy

Flavor: Dry, with a slight bitterness

Lindemans Bin 50 Shiraz is typical of a red wine in that goes very well with beef dishes and pasta dishes with marinara sauces. It especially goes well with polish sausage cooked in barbeque sauce due to this wine's dryness complimenting the sweetness of the sauce. Lindemans Bin 50 Shiraz also goes well with the sides that accompanies these dinners. The sides we reviewed with this wine with include cheese flavored mashed potatoes topped with blue cheese dressing and mixed vegetables.
