Yakima Valley

The Yakima Valley was one of the first wine grape growing regions in the Northwest, and is one of the most important appellations in Washington state. The Yakima Valley region is located within the Columbia Valley region, along the Yakima River. While more than 90% of the state's wine grapes come from the Columbia Valley region, a large percentage of the vineyards are located within the Yakima Valley region.

The Yakima Valley lies at the same latitude as the great French wine producing regions. This northern location combined with a long growing season, warm summer days, and cool nights provides a perfect climate for growing premium wine grapes, with the proper sugar/acid balance.

The wines produced in the Yakima Valley include Chardonnay, Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvigon, Merlot, and more. The Chardonnays are crisp, with an elegance and delicacy that are often lacking in Chardonnays from warmer climates. The Merlots are full-bodied, and crisper than those from California.
