Puget
Sound
The Puget Sound region is
the only one of Washington's five appellations located on the west side
of the state. The large body of water keeps the climate mild, not too
hot, and not too cold.
While most wineries in the
Puget Sound region use grapes grown on the eastern side of the state,
there are some vineyards with cool climate varieties of wine grapes.
Pinot Noir, Madeleine Angevine, Siegerrebe, and Chasselas thrive in
the lush Puget Sound region, and Pinot Gris can be found in both the
Puget Sound region and the more arid Eastern Washington vineyards. The
differences in climate result in Pinot Gris wines of distinctly different
flavors and bouquets.
