Portugal

Portugal is a small nation on the western edge of Europe, bordered on the north and east by Spain, and on the south and west by the Atlantic Ocean. Due to it's isolation from the rest of Europe, the Portugese frequently cling to old-world winemaking methods. However, great strides in modernization have been made in the past decade.

Portugal is world-famous for two styles of wine, Port and Madeira. Port and Madeira are both fortified wines, meaning that during fermentation, they are fortified with brandy, creating a sweet, heavy red wine.
