Umpqua Valley

The Umpqua Valley appellation is one of Oregon's oldest wine growing regions, dating back to 1880. The Umpqua Valley region consists of small mountain hillsides and valleys south of the Willamette Valley, around Roseburg. It's location makes the Umpqua Valley drier, and warmer than the Willamette Valley, yet cooler than the Rogue River Valley, to the south.

The long hours of sunshine, cooling marine breezes, and gently cooling autumn allow the grapes to ripen gradually, under moderate temperatures. This allows the grapes to retain the complex fruit flavors, aromas, and nuances, all of which is key to producing memorable wines.

The Umpqua Valley region is cool enough to produce high quality Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, yet warm enough to grow grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.
