Rogue Valley

Just north of the California border, the Rogue Valley is Oregon's southernmost, and warmest wine growing region. Vineyard plantings in this region have increased significantly in the past few years.

The Rogue Valley includes the Applegate Valley apellation, and the Bear Creek Valley and Illinois Valley sub-appellations. The microclimate of the Illinois Valley, in the western part of the Rogue Valley appellation, is well suited to Pinot Noir, Gewurtztraminer, Riesling, Chardonnay, and other grape varieties. The Bear Creek Valley, farther to the east, produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Malbec, and Syrah. The Applegate Valley, Oregon's newest appellation, plants such varieties as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel.
