Tuscany

Tuscany is a region in central Italy, around the town of Florence. Of all of the wine regions in Italy, Tuscany may have the oldest traditions.

Winemaking began in Tuscany with the Etruscans in the 8th century B.C., where they used live trees to support the grapevines. Some traces of this form of cultivation can still be seen in some areas of Tuscany.

Cabernet Sauvignon is grown in this region, as well as the very much sought after Brunello di Montalcino, a very complex wine made from the Sangiovese grape. The most well known Italian wine, Chianti is also produced in this region from the Sangiovese grape.

Medium red. Smoky aromas of redcurrant, tar and meat, with a liqueur-like quality. Smooth, sweet and expressive if a bit chunky and lacking in definition. Flavors lifted by a floral nuance. Finishes with slightly dry tannins and good but not outstanding length.
