Italian
Wine Country
Italy not only produces and
exports more wine than any other country, it also offers the greatest
variety of types of wine.
Wine making in Italy dates
back to the ancient Greeks and Etruscans. The Romans later developed
a thriving wine trade throughout the Mediterranean and beyond. Their
techniques were not equaled again until the 17th or 18th century. Italian
winemaking advanced quickly throughouth the 19th century. Now Italy
has more types of grapevines planted than any other country, allowing
them to produce a greater range of wines than any other country. And
today, Italy continues to expand and improve their wine production,
meeting growing demands for quality wines.
The winemaking regions in
Italy include Friuli-Venezia
Giulia, Piedmont,
Southern
Italy, Trentino-Alto
Aldige, Tuscany,
and Veneto.

Medium red. Smoky aromas of redcurrant, tar and meat, with a liqueur-like quality. Smooth, sweet and expressive if a bit chunky and lacking in definition. Flavors lifted by a floral nuance. Finishes with slightly dry tannins and good but not outstanding length.
